Eleanor Whitfield
Managing Partner & Chief Executive
Eleanor founded Harbor Capital in 1998 after fifteen years in institutional fixed income. She chairs the Investment Committee and leads the firm's largest family relationships.
About the firm
Harbor Capital was built on a simple, durable idea: a firm that advises families and businesses should be owned by the people doing the advising — and accountable to no one else.
Our charter
From our headquarters on the Portland waterfront, we serve clients across Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont. We are large enough to deliver sophisticated banking and investment solutions, and small enough that you will know the people responsible for them.
Every client is assigned a relationship team — an advisor, a banker, and a planner — who stay with you year after year. There is no call center and no anonymous queue. When you call Harbor, you reach people who know your name and your situation.
Privately held by design. No outside shareholders, no product quotas, no conflicts dressed up as advice.
We measure ourselves in decades. The goal is not to win a quarter but to compound trust across a lifetime.
We will tell you when we are not the right fit, when a deal should not happen, and when doing nothing is the move.
Our history
Eleanor Whitfield opens the firm on Commercial Wharf with a single mandate: advice that answers to clients, not shareholders.
We extend our first relationship credit lines to regional manufacturers, formalizing the integrated banking franchise.
Growing private-wealth demand brings a second office and the firm's first dedicated planning team.
Operating clients ask us to manage cash, not just invest it. Treasury & cash management becomes a full discipline.
Across New England, the same independent, long-horizon approach that defined the firm on day one.
Leadership
Our partners average more than twenty years in finance. They are not spokespeople — they sit on the committees that make the decisions.
